I think because I was still "new" to sewing last year, I made the mistake of buying fabric that I thought was "ok" because it was really inexpensive. But now, I'm finding that I don't enjoy sewing with fabric that I don't LOVE. So, because of that, I do (and am in the middle of) destash. My goal for 2022 is to only spend money on fabrics that make me go "Whoa"! So that should reduce my destashing in the future. However, I do find that my tastes change - so I won't say I'll never destash again 🤣 🧵 I am not surprised that the girls were all fighting over the tie-dye dress. I LOVE that one!

Jen ** Love your channel. I have sewed since I was in Jr. High and sewed my own clothes for decades. Also I loved sewing clothes for my small children. Now several decades later, I rarely sew clothing--I have become an avid quilter. This has recently changed since I started watching your channel and those of others, such as Susan Sews, Dahlia Sewciety, Viv Mom, and more. My body has gone south and never felt that I looked good in anything I sewed. From you, I have learned so much about fitting and being adventurous and so I have started sewing for myself again. I think you show common sense and explain things so well-you have REALLY made a difference. I have made several sundresses, using several of the patterns you suggested. Now I want to sew a maxi dress. I enjoy your easy conversations and I watch you from my sewing room when I am sewing. Thanks so much for everything!

I love the idea of not buying hangers…I hate drowning in STUFF. I enjoyed your closet purge. Thanks for the shoutout …I’m realizing that rolled hem foot is almost like a magic trick…not a lot of people can do it…it’s like watching someone juggle! 😊

Your top is super cute. 1000+ patterns??? Wow that's awesome. You always pull out the best patterns to share with us. And I admire your reuse of thrifted fabric. ❤️

I have a small glue stick that helps to hem before I sew and press. I heard about it on youtube and it does work. I love the nightgown for Emma Simplicity 9928. It looks so pretty and comfortable!

Haha love your Spanky gif throwing money away….I remember watching those shows on UHF when I was a kid! My fav was when he was in bed and asked the burglar for a drink of water “ just wanted to wet my whistle “…. Kids today don’t know what they’re missing.

Yes please show us the Garnet sweater. I love the style lines. Tip for hemming anything - put flusible thread in the lower looper of your serger. Iron in place and then sew. I use this even when I hand hem my garment. I should’ve left the auto correct on this it was hilarious.❤️❤️🧵

Destashing, oh its the place where my minimalist and frugal tendencies fight it out! I have a big stash at the moment as I bought loads of fabric at absolute bargain prices from a local ex dressmaker and its mostly plain and good colours so I'm happy to be a bit overstashed. Like you say some things you can use for home and craft sewing. I'm not surprised your girls wanted your dresses as they are really lovely. I'm amazed at the how nice the sheets you get are. Here all you get is plain and usually very tired. Have a great week Jen x

I don't blame your girls for wanting the Marcie Tilton dress. It's beautiful and unique. At times it seems that UFOs appear out of nowhere. It still amazes me that I can forget a whole basket full of mending or just things that will take only a few minutes to fix. Enjoy your girl and don't worry about the UFOs. I think about destashing but I like my stash. I buy what I love and usually know what I am going to do with it. I also quilt and make other things, so I feel it's helps me to have a stash. I always shop my stash first, then if I need to buy I do. I am trying to use my stash more this year. Trying not to buy a pattern that I want but will not use. That's hard for me, because there are so many great companies out there. I am rambling so glad that I can catch you on Fridays. Sending you prayers and hugs.

Thanks for alerting us to the Garnet cardigan! I fell in love with the picture, and went to the Mood site and downloaded the pattern. I used the pin tuck technique on the cuff of a garment I already had under construction, and I loved it! I am now constructing the cardigan out of a white cotton knit. I did a dartless FBA on the front, and I’m curious about how the front band is going to look. Fortunately, I have enough fabric to cut another one if I need to. I would love to see your adjustments!

I love the way that you use a lot of thrifted fabrics and patterns for your makes. You seem to have your stash under control. I love fabric but I do buy what I like as well. My goal this year is to sew more from my stash and resist buying more...unless it's irresistable☺️

I like the idea of one in and one out. Having variety is definitely convenient! I’ve got to do a closet purge myself. I need to make it happen!

I have to do a lot as well, so don't worry it's a process. BTW I keep looking at the drawing behind you of the young girl in shorts, the beauty of youth! and I love your stained glass in the window.

Happy Birthday to your twins! 🎉 I don’t have a huge fabric stash, either. I usually buy fabric per project, unless I find gems in thrift stores, or when JoAnn has their 70%-off sales! And, I’m like you, I only buy what I like and want to use! 💗

Thats it....I'm heading to my closet right now! Thanks for the motivation!!!

I am trying to get my stash to a manageable size. Right now I am trying to reduce it by sewing, sewing, sewing. Dress a girl project helped me get rid of a lot of yardage and feel good about it.

Regarding stash Jen, I looked at what I had not too long ago and made a commitment to go through what few patterns I have and start matching them up with the fabric. I don't have easy access to fabric like you ladies in the states and it's a good thing at this stage of the game. I just don't need that many clothes, and I am forever blown away when some of these sewing channels do a 'haul' and you see a mountain of fabric already on their shelves. For me, as I get older, I just do not want that much stuff hanging around.

I really don’t have too much of a stash right now. I’m just trying right now to get more into sewing at this point. I really don’t even care about the scraps on the floor. I know the day will come but not now. Snowed in so just going to stay cozy & warm tomorrow & sew.

I decided to measure all the various pieces of fabric, and make a note so I can easily match up with either patterns or Roman blinds etc., (obviously, I don’t have a massive amount.) I feel your pain with regard to the rolled hem foot! I’ll give it another go, but I’m not holding out much hope! 🤣 Kind regards from Penny in Liverpool 🇬🇧😊💕
