@shortyjk95 When you get a new ring for the piston, the ring gap has to be a certain width. The ring on the piston swells to the wall of the cylinder when the engine warms up, if I left the gap as it was, the ring would have swelled and the two ends would have touched and overlapped each other which would cause damage to the piston and cylinder wall. The numbers I were saying were the safe zones. If I filed it down too much then I would have had to buy a new ring. f

@pugsonrugs i was just taking it easy, this was the like 3rd start up of the bike. this was my first time rebuilding/breaking in a top end so i was hesitant with the throttle. after i put an hour or so on the new top end being just in 1st-3rd i started to go through the gears and open her up.
