Slow lorises are rapidly declining due to the pet trade, traditional medicine trade and their use as tourist photo props. Most lorises die in trade, but a few even make it here to YouTube, with claims that they are captive bred.

The Little Fireface Project works to save the slow loris from extinction. Our activities include: field studies of wild lorises, conservation education, law enforcement training, information sharing. Our goals are to see if it is possible to reintroduce lorises rescued from the pet trade back to the wild, to empower communities living around lorises not to capture them, to empower law enforcement officials to prosecute traders, and to inspire and educate the public that threatened species like lorises are not suitable pets.

99% of claims that they are bred in captivity are false; the economic and time advantages of catching wild lorises, combined with the fact that they are extremely difficult to breed in captivity and breed extremely slowly, means that commercial breeding of these endangered species is not viable. Those that are bred legally in captivity come from wild-caught founders, meaning that the threatened wild population has been drained for a high status pet. PLEASE do not keep lorises as pets and do not encourage the 'liking' of YouTube videos that encourage this practice.
