My brother and I did this very thing in about 2010. However, AI facial recognition wasn't then available:
So we used free tracking software in conjunction with an IR filter-removed webcam to detect the three IR LEDs attached in a triangle to an old baseball cap! The tracking worked beautifully once you got the hang of it, and the ability to actually look where you were turning, was a breath of fresh air.
We played Condor on the 720p projector, sat in a jerry-rigged cockpit simulator made from an old car seat attached to a Logitech stick and rudder pedals.
We could fly in the Alps for hours and hours while getting drunk. Awesome! ;)

I found it useful to map the tracking on/off button to my joystick. That way I can switch off the headtracking if I want to adjust my XCSoar or reach for my beer ;)

Opentrack now has its own facetracking, so you do not need AITrack. I use a Logitech C270 web cam ($35) with just Opentrack and it works VERY well.

Bloody hell - 239€ for a webcam! I have a 640 x 480 one from Amazon for £12 and if you dont mind the chinese government spying on you while you fly it works great after tweaking the contrast and smoothing!

Very instructive video, Stefan, thank you again!! I set it up using your configurations with a logitech C922 camera, which costs about 80 usd here in Brazil. It works pretty good! I have also set the Z axis along with roll and pitch. The Z axis is very good to zoom in the game (head foward).

is there a possibility to use the Quest 2 as flight sim screen (not VR, because motion sickness...) and then use head tracking (of the Quest) like in the video?

Are you able to use video recording with camera while using AI track in game ? Even when i plug in 2 different camera one is allocated for AI track other is for recording but AI track stop tracking or freezes.

Thank you for the excellent tutorial, but I have a doubt. See, I would like to do this to play American Truck Simulator, and I in fact did that but using my cellphone wired to PC via USB-C. However, the input delay is awful. A very noticeable half second or so making it very awkward. I would like to know if with proper webcam it'll be faster. Also, would it make any difference the cam being 30 or 60 FPS capable?
