THE LEGEND OF THE GERMAN SOLDIER HEINRICH SEVERLOH THE BEAST OF OMAHA #shorts

On June 6, 1944, during Operation Overlord, also known as "D-Day," the Americans were at a great advantage over the German soldiers, who nevertheless offered stiff resistance. Among the soldiers who were defending the beachhead was Heinrich Severloh, who would become known as "the Beast of Omaha." Operating an MG42 machine gun, he hit hundreds of approaching American servicemen, picking up his rifle every time the barrel of his machine gun got too hot, keeping up the constant fire on the enemy.

Heinrich Severloh claimed to have fired 13,500 machine gun shots, and 400 rifle shots for 9 hours straight, before he was forced to abandon his position due to American naval bombardment, and was captured. In a 2004 interview, he claimed to have hit perhaps as many as 2,000 enemy soldiers. German and American historians do not believe these figures, but confirm that he may have killed hundreds of soldiers.

MG-42 had an incredible rate of fire that necessitated a fantastic ammo supply. The gun had a quick change barrel feature and came with a special heat resistant glove.

I once met an old Wehrmacht soldier who claimed to have driven a panzer tank from Romainia to the Caspian Sea and made it back to Germany in one piece.

I'd like to know how the American soldiers were at a great advantage... jumping out of a boat on an open beach with thousands of Germans in heavily fortified bunkers shooting everything they had at them mg42s, mortars, artillery, snipers...I couldn't rule out the numbers that he said either the battle for the beach took several hours and it's not like there was much cover on the beach... would of been many more dead if the mg42s barrel could of sustained constant fire for longer without overheating.

The Germans had every advantage. The courage shown by the American soldiers in breaking out of the beaches had not been duplicated since.

The Americans weren't at a great advantage, the Germans had them dead to rights! It was out of pure bravery and grit the Americans got off the beach and it went from there!

The battle was one well one sided, the Americans had naval, air Power And many more men if the Germans had a good Machine Gunner, it still was not enough.and also if they had Panzers the outcome may have been Different.

End of the day he was obeying orders. As a soldier your superior officer could expect no more and no less. Most people could have been in his boots. Whatever their nationality

Why didn't the Americans have guns like this?

That alone would explain his hearing aid.

This's what little known fact that nobody is telling you. Those watercraft vehicles was made of wood. That's why so many soldiers was killed. Instead of telling the veterans who fought in Iraq, Afghanistan..ect Thank You for your service with your modern update equipment. Tell it to a WW2 and Vietnam War veterans. Thank You for Your Service. Not a War that was started for greed.
