On November 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin laid flowers at the monument of Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky in Moscow's Red Square to commemorate National Unity Day. Accompanied by Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill and other religious leaders, Putin honored the historical figures who led a successful revolt against Polish rulers in 1612. This year's observance was marked by unusually wintry weather, with parts of Red Square blanketed in snow. National Unity Day, established by Putin in 2005, replaced the Soviet-era celebration of the Bolshevik Revolution.
