2:25 the horse was just trying to say to breath through your nose

I remember reading that the course is specifically designed to make the race competitive. Had the race been more flat it would favour the horses, had it been even more hilly it would have favoured the humans.

the thing with horses is, they are also built for long distance running

This human vs horse racing was featured in the famous Born To Run book. The thing is, over the distance of marathon the horse has really good chances to win. The longer the distance gets, the bigger advantage of the trained male ultramarathon runner will be. He has a higher terminal speed than even a riderless horse, not by much, but the advantage is measurable. So ultimately the trained runner will outrun the horse.

fun fact: this race is actually shorter than a regular marathon to give the horses a fairer chance

wait 28 miles per hour? I knew Usain Bolt is the fastest human on earth, but damn, 28 miles per hour doesn't even sound human!

I love how the first human to win was actually a hugh-man.

I really enjoy the way you style your videos, it remains informative yet has moments to breathe with humour and pleasant mini-facts while still getting to the point.
It's not too clunky and feels rather refreshing to watch! It also has a good mixture of animation and real footage!

Kind of off-topic but I like how this also has raised from a typical pub rant :D

Hi I don't think you will remember me?? I was with my sister in 2015, she was on the horse and I was running! You interviewed me after I ran the race!! Thank you, I enjoyed the interview 😀👍

The only animal that could run at long distance better that a human at ultra marathons are huskies. And that's because they have a special adaptation that at the beginning phases of the race they use the fats and proteins and they completely cut off their glycogens stores. Allowing them to use small burst of glycogens thru out the race just enough to promote the usage of fats and proteins thru out the entire race. In the otherhand us humans burn most of the glycogen at the beginning phases. And even though they switch to use fats and proteins at some point. They still need that small amount of glycogen that helps burn the other macronutrients. Sadly the glycogens stores are small and deplets rather quickly.

Just imagine how fast and far a hairless horse with the ability to sweat like a human could run. Shadowfax should have been a hairless horse.
