Winspace Lun Hyper Review (VS Cheaper ICAN Aero alternative)

In this video we're doing a major deep dive on the new Winspace 2023 Lun Hyper D45's the old Winspace Hyper 50s and the ICAN Aero 50s. In this detailed review an expert mechanic will give his opinion on these Chinese carbon rims, the freehub bodies, bearings and general construction. I will provide data on 18 different speed tests and also a bit of background on the companies.

Regarding the speed tests:
- Very low wind day
- I take screenshots of the wind app before each run. For TT like you mean it, TT like you mean it in reverse and the descent, if the wind is the same I haven't screenshots the app, hence why there is only 11 screenshots for the 18 runs
- Tyres and tubes the same
- Same level of water in water bottle (I sip out of one in my car!)
- Same body position
- Same power meter (for this run it was my Quarq cranks on the Winsopace T1500)

Many thanks to Winspace & ICAN for sending me the wheels (at no charge), Aaron and Keith at Trilogy Cycles for creating the time to deep dive on the wheels, and Masterworks for making this MONSTER edit possible.

Purchase shares in great masterpieces from artists like Pablo Picasso, Banksy, Andy Warhol, and more. 🎨

For me, I first bought the ICAN Wheels and they were very light but they seemed to me to be not as stiff as I liked. And they felt to be lacking lateral stiffness when I climbed in a standing position and do sprints. I was hoping for better performing wheels overall, but I did like how light the ICAN Wheels were they just simply felt not as solid as other road bike wheels I have used over many years like ROVAL, Easton, and Reynolds Wheels. I purchased the HYPER Wheels and from the moment I opened the box I was sold. The stiffest and most solid feeling wheels I have ever used are the HYPER Wheels. No lateral movements when standing climbing. And they accelerate just as I hoped a Road Bike wheel could. I have been on HYPER wheels and LUN Wheels for multiple years now and I have not had a single negative issue with the HYPER Wheels. In fact, I hit a boulder during a race one time using the HYPER Wheels when racing in the Philippines. I crashed extremely hard and I was sure my rear wheel was destroyed. However, the HYPER Wheel took the hit from the giant rock at race speed and literally has not one reflection of the smash. The wheel rolls perfectly true still and you could never tell there was a giant accident to the wheels. I was amazed that the wheels could take such a giant hit and not have the slightest show of damage. The ICAN Wheels roll nice and smooth on the flat roads but do feel soft and not quite at the performance level I was hoping for. The Hyper Wheels I would buy again. Also, I use the Rim Brake versions, so cannot comment on the Disc Brake models.

Nice break down! Thank you for the extensive review! Regarding price, Ican has local warehouses. So for me living in Europe, I bought the Ican Alpha 45 wheels from the EU Warehouse. The shipping was free and no taxes. Admitedly the price was slightly higher (less than 100 euro) than if bought from China but stil, no import tax or shipping costs! So the cost for me was 575 Euro for the wheels. That is a bargain for decent wheels!

I’m 5000km in to a set of ICAN FL40 rim brake wheels that I’ve setup tubeless. They are great for the $800 I paid delivered free from their Sydney warehouse. Climb nicely without pad rub. Had a couple of podiums with local club races. All in all, very happy.

I'm really great at my job, it's great to see and watch and listen to this guy talk and take apart rim's,

No bs, or fake rambling, just a switched on guy 🤩

I'd love to get the guys at Trilogy Cycles to offer their opinions on bottom brackets. These guys know their stuff and based on what Hambini says there is some serious defects in bottom bracket designs and quality control.

I have the ICAN aero 40s and my buddy has the 50s. I think the 40s are the better wheel and they are impressive in ride comfort, stiffness, and speed. I do feel like the 50s are not quite stiff enough probably due to the light weight overall but I’ve been very, very pleased with the 40s.

I have been riding the ICAN FL40s on my Giant TCR for a few years now. Been fantastic with Schwalbe Pro One tubeless. Have the ICAN G25 650B gravel wheels on my Trek Boone. Those have also been good for about a year now.

I have the Hyper 50's rim brake version....I couldn't be happier. I'm running 25's on them tubeless mostly on my TT bike, but just bought a backup road bike for use on inclement days and on the trainer. I rode the Hypers tonight and they're such great wheels. I've put about 3000 km on them and they perform like the day I took them out of the box. When there is money in the budget for a new set of wheels it will probably be to upgrade the wheelset that came with my principal road bike....currently running Vision SC55 Disc that are ok. Would love to upgrade them to the Hyper D67 wheels....
