All the Old Knives Ending Explained, “All the Old Knives” is directed by Janus Metz and written by Olen Steinhauer (who is also the author of the book the movie is based on). It opens with the 2012 hijacking of Flight 127 by terrorists and the Vienna team of the CIA trying to make head or tail of the situation. The team features Henry Pelham (Chris Pine), Celia Harrison (Thandiwe Newton), Vick Wallinger (Laurence Fishburne), Bill Compton (Jonathan Pryce), Ernst Pul (Jonjo O’Neill), Leila Maloof (Ahd), and Owen Lassiter (David Dawson), all of whom fail to capture the terrorists or save any of the passengers on board. On top of that, their failure led to the death of an informant who was giving the CIA valuable information about the hijacking.

No details to spoil. This is really well written and directed. Very much worth the watch. One of the very best espionage films out there. Highly recommended.

The movie has all the good accessories: sleek production, atmospheric mise-en-scene, glossy photography, powerful soundtrack.

But it's the excellent screenplay (from author Olen Steinhauer) and acting performances that make All The Old Knives a high quality espionage thriller, one made of the good old stuff.

For once the genre is not represented in movies by the usual kiss-kiss bang-bang, car chases, fistfights and the whole James Bond enchilada. This is espionage for connoisseurs.

One thing to add: So Celia always mentions she has an 8 year old daughter, and the last time she sees Henry is 8 years ago. There’s some misprints cuz I’ve seen a few articles (and even heard Chris Pine in an interview say 10) but Celia in the film explicitly says 8. So does that mean her daughter is possibly the love child of her and Henry? And if so, why doesn’t she ever allude to it, since the timing seems oddly coincidental.

I've seen other ratings, so far there're 10 one star ratings, come on, this is much better than that. I saw one review complaining about Chris Pine's face - you should not be allowed to post reviews here, let me tell you that.

So here goes, this is not a groundbreaking thriller, but if you've liked Ghostwriter from Ewan Mcgregor, you'll love this. Strong performances by both the main actors and the supporting cast also did their job nicely. This story is not new, but how original can an espionage thriller get? The twist at the end I kind of saw coming but it was surprising the way it went down nonetheless. Soundtrack is nice, visuals you see are nice too, gives you the feels of an old fashion thriller. The chemistry between the main characters is excellent too, keeps the story intact. Movie is not long or too short but perfect, doesn't add unnecessary scenes nor rush through scenes. Amozon released two good movies at the same time, watch this one definitely if you like thrillers, watch The Outfit too, that one is also a good movie.

One request though, if you were expecting an action movie or you're a superhero fan (nothing against superhero movies, I like those too) and you do not happen to like this genre, please do not rate this bad cause I want these kind of movies coming up in the future, I don't think i'm the only one. And also when you're reviewing a title, try to stay relevant too. Have a nice day !!!

I loved the acting. Reviews are more caustic than movie deserves. The ironies, reminiscent of O. Henry, where one lover wants to save the other unbeknownst to each, are tragic and poignant. The thing that s implied but not stated: is Celia's child at the end possibly 8? Making her Henry's and the reason why Celia holds her so tightly. Didn t like how she left him to die alone, tho. Have followed Newton since her stint on ER. Chris Pine is a bit too restrsined, but his character is a lover, not a fighter. CIA always comes off as bad guys with no heart. Homeland made that clear. Give this movie 4 stars.

Much too many flashbacks make the film confusing to follow. Otherwise All the Old Knives may have been more appealing to the viewer if telling the story straight forward.

Honestly, the film was predictable. I guessed correctly who the mole was before seeing it, but what was brilliant, was that as I began to watch, there were subtleties and nuances in the way each character was set up to look like the possible mole, that I, even at times, questioned how it would play out.

For me, the best part about this film besides the breathtaking, sensual, moody cinematography and lighting, was the writing, which felt very effortless. It’s one of the sexiest films I’ve seen, especially in modern cinema, and it’s not grotesque or redundant. The one sex scene which has flashbacks to a full scene is so much more than just a sexy love scene, it’s very intimate and you do get the impression these two were each other’s world at one point.

The way both Chris Pine and Thandie play two heartbroken lovers, who both still hold a small candle for each other is very believable as a backdrop to the mystery of whodunit, and what’s at stake when they’re found out.

Just amazing movie, so glad I watched it—saw it twice actually!

Intriguing set-up with a strong cast, of course Thandiwe Newton and Chris Pine but there is strength in depth too. There are several plot twists, some are predictable, some surprising and things trot along nicely, though the non-linear storytelling makes parts difficult to follow. An ambitious scope for 90 minutes leads to a tsunami of cringeworthy exposition.

The cinematography is schizophrenic, with an overuse of hackneyed high-key, low-contrast shots with lens flare randomly juxtaposed with sharp-focus well-exposed wide shots and dark close-in headshots.

Enjoyable sweet candy floss, but it has already melted in the mouth.
