// My Story

I am currently a software developer who once modeled and thought I wanted to pursue a career in the fashion industry. While I was modeling in Hong Kong, I eventually felt the desire to further my education. I decided to depart the modeling world and move back to Canada, knowing that could be the end of my modeling opportunities. I attended Ryerson University for GCM (Graphic Communications Management), as I thought I might still work in the fashion industry in another capacity. It was in my last year of university, I was introduced to a very basic coding course. I instantly fell in love. From there I knew I wanted to pursue software development but didn't have a clue where to start. I didn't want to go back to university as I just completed a four-year degree. I decided to enroll in a 10-week intensive coding Bootcamp. From there I started working at a small startup learning and growing my technical and soft skills. I then transitioned to a larger company where I am a software developer and technical consultant today.

I left the programming/developer industry many, many, years ago after seeing some no-code/low-code applications being introduced and was therefore a bit fearful for the future of the trade (plus I had other reasons for leaving too). It was the worst thing I could have done... I should have embraced the new technologies and pressured on through. Now it's 2023 and I'm starting all over in the developer industry again - and using AI tools as an 'assistant' to allow me to prioritize my tasks and creative skills instead of being 'afraid' of the emergence of AI.

AI will continue to grow over the next decade for sure. There were many calling it hype and saying we're approaching a new AI winter. The thing is, we see every day more and more clever applications of AI

You won a new sub, I have only a year working as a software dev, I started using chatgpt about a month a go, and it is incredible how much I have learned from it and how much time I'ved saved. In my humble opion, I think we will be more software arquitechs than programmers or coders, in the near future

The cool thing about learning how to program way back when .. was as a hobbyist. That feeling was so interesting because there was no pressure to find a job, so we learned more and it was fun… and it got many of us into serious jobs as programmers

The stuff ChatGPT has given me is Unreal. I am trying to make an AI chatbot for my site and it not only wrote me a great php script that would pull a response at random (a much more human touch, imo) but it also showed me where to get AIML files and a python script to use my chatbot through the Twitter API.

When I was learning to program in Python in 2018/2019 I spent months for things that today I could solve in minutes with AI. I’m still learning… now with ChatGPT everything is so easy.

Instead of checking on stack overflow and copping codes from others and trying to understand or asking friends who are programmers… now I ask chatGPT the code and I ask to explain me the code. It is so easier that it’s almost scary how easier it is.

The stack overflow vs chatGPT meme is so true! I'm not afraid to ask stupid questions anymore, it's been a GREAT tool to learn for me. Although now I'm using it to my advantage, I do believe that in the future it will replace me.

What Will Programming Look Like 5 Years From Now With AI & Chat GPT?
Answer: No, because your customer is not AI & Chat GPT so still need Quality Control UI/UX Design.

But to become a thought leader, you first have to be a programmer, and then acquire the experience that only years of work can provide. However, with AI in the market, we will increasingly have fewer programmers reaching that level, as entry-level programmer positions will be eliminated by AI.

Thought leaders will only be those who already have that experience.

I think AI will be at its best and computers will be interesting. Within 5 years, incredible changes will take place that will now be a memory. Programming is a discipline that will spread to more languages.😊

If it's pure code then I can see it taking over quite a bit. You'd still need to go over it or have someone go over it. For things like embedded systems, it has a long way to go. There really needs to be a full understanding of hardware and electronics. Not just having code work.

As for applications other than coding, it does sort of okay. I studied mechanical and electrical engineering. For simple problems it could be your friend but wouldn't depend on it because it can give wrong answers with even medium complex questions. It's like working with some who just graduated with C's and D's.

I know you said that the prediction is that areas like cybersecurity and artificial intelligence will have an increase, but nowadays these are small areas if we compare other areas like to web development and mobile development, where are the majority of the WORKING POSTS. How is the big picture for the near future, do you think that in 5~10 years from now we will still have a good amount of job vacancies for "people that make software" like we have now?

Sorry for my bad English

God I hate stack overflow, people on there are so rude, always take down my question because it’s “too simple” or they just don’t like it
