This is excellent. Was looking for a detailed explanation of the Oxidation of Pyruvate and you crushed it! Thank you

Oh my god, I seriously love you!!! I hate when channels over complicate reactions and literally provide no help, exactly like the text book. You helped me alot, thanks <3

The Acetyl-CoA can’t go through directly the mitochondria’s membrane. The Pyruvate goes through the mitochondria’s membranes, and this oxidation what you explained is happening in the matrix.

thanks a bunch
you're really easy to understand and the way you explain really helps visual learners understand this process

Pyruvate also enters the matrix after glycolysis through a transporter. (not after it's turned into an acetyl) It is in the matrix that the whole pyruvate oxidation process occurs.

Great video! But, a slight mistake, NAD+ picks up 2 e- from pyruvate to acetyl to become NADH. NADH is formed because the first e- turns NAD+ to NAD, then the second e- plus an H+ turns the H+ into H and therefore, NAD turns to NADH.

The downward curve in chemistry is actually exothermic, which is basically a release of energy from a molecular structure

OMG, very clear and thorough. Thank you.

Pyruvate oxidation takes place *inside* the mitochondria. Pyruvate first goes inside and then whatever you explained occurs
