President Moon Jae-in will give a keynote speech at the UN General Assembly next week.
He is expected to highlight South Korea's efforts for peace on the Peninsula.
Before returning home, Moon will also visit Hawaii to attend a ceremony for transfering remains of soldiers who fought in the Korean War.

President Moon Jae-in will embark on a trip to New York on Sunday to attend the upcoming UN General Assembly.
"As this year marks three decades since South Korea and North Korea joined the UN, President Moon's attendance will reaffirm international support for efforts to advance peace on the Korean Peninsula and highlight South Korea's role in and contributions to global peace and prosperity."
Moon will be giving a keynote speech at the UN General Assembly,... in which he is expected to stress South Korea's firm commitment to peace on the Korean Peninsula.
He will also give an address at the opening ceremony of the Sustainable Development Goals Moment event,... while bilateral summits with other global leaders are being arranged.
This will be Moon's fifth and final time speaking to the General Assembly since taking office in 2017.
During last year's session, which was held virtually due to the pandemic,... Moon called for the declaration of an end to the 1950-53 Korean War saying this would open the door to complete denuclearization and permanent peace on the Peninsula.
Before returning home, Moon is scheduled to make a stopover in Hawaii to attend a ceremony for the transfer of the remains of South Korean and American troops killed during the Korean War.
The Blue House says the event will reaffirm the strong Seoul-Washington alliance... and demonstrate the administration's commitment to take responsibility for those who sacrificed their lives for the country.
Moon will arrive in Seoul on Thursday.
