I interpret this song as someone wanting to above and beyond to alleviate a loved one's suffering. Like for example in the beginning with the lyrics "do you want to know how it feels? do you want to know that it doesn't hurt me?" that are you eagerly and gladly taking on someone's pain and it doesn't hurt you. The chorus is self-explanatory with the "running up that hill, running up that road, running up that building, " is the lengths you will go for the loved one etc.
