Thousands stranded at Manila airport after power outage

Thousands of passenger have found themselves stranded at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino international airport after a power outage took out the airport’s communications.

At least 65,000 passengers have impacted by outage as 300 flights were delayed, cancelled or diverted. A Manila-bound Qantas plane was forced to return to Sydney midair because of the air traffic control malfunction.

The country’s transport minister, Jaime Bautista, said: “All inbound and outbound flights, and overflights within the Philippine airspace, went down.” Bautista added that the airport had been using a dated communications system.

I thought power cuts in the Philippines just affected the people .Bad enough they pay for a service that is distrusted everyday .Electricity in the Philippines is very expensive. This one involving thousands of flights due to a system with no back up that's obsolete is insane .

Hindi na ko magugulat kung ang NAIA ang pinaka worst airport sa buong mundo. "NAKAKAHIYA" lalo na sa mga foreign tourist. Dapat lang talaga matapos agad yung New Manila Int'l airport sa bulacan para meron modernong paliparan dito sa bansa na kaya mag handle hanggang 100M passengers a year.

PAL is no different in my opinion. Cancelations or flight schedule changes left right and center. Hopeless and unreliable. This is my personal opinion. Had enough of Philippine Airlines. Still waiting for my refund from last April 2022.

Pls ask CAAP if there is a Chinese take over of our airport management already?? That is why excuse is our system is too old and needs P13B to buy a new one. Maybe tbey awarded the airports to Chinese na.
