North Macedonia Eurovision 2021 Reaction | Vasil - Here I Stand

We react to North Macedonia's Eurovision 2021 song "Here I Stand" from Vasil Garvanliev. North Macedonia will sing in the first half of Semi-Final 1. The music video for “Here I Stand” was filmed at the National Gallery of Macedonia. Vasil is shown singing the song while wandering around galleries filled with works of art by Macedonian artists.

For the climax of “Here I Stand”, Vasil is joined by backing vocals that were recorded in Chicago by former members of the acclaimed Chicago Children’s Choir. Vasil himself is an alum of the choir and has worked with them many times since.

This could be the surprise when I watched this I was surprised this is totally different to his song last year he has a splendid voice and I hope the controversy doesn’t force 🇲🇰 to pull out. Normally I don’t go for these songs ballads but this I wouldn’t mind this could do well with the juries and this proves he’s a fantastic singer. This reminds me of a Macedonian version of nessun dorma it’s like a football anthem like nessun dorma was for the 1990 World Cup in 🇮🇹 and this could be the 🇲🇰 football teams anthem as just 3 weeks after the final the north Macedonia football team compete in the euros which will be their first ever major football tournament!

"Grow" was my favorite song last year. It spoke directly to me. This song does the same thing. Vasil has one of the best voices I've ever heard, but he also brings an honest, human feeling I got last year from Jeangu Macrooy. Yes he hits a lot of astounding notes, but its the song's gentle moments which evoke the most emotions from me. The lyric, "There are times when I remember back, and all I do...is smile, " tears me apart. Anyone who has lost someone recently, and who is struggling to reach that place where memories of that person will stir happiness instead of pain can relate to it. I hope Vasil knows that this song has brought him a lot of new fans who will be following his career long after E21 ends.

I absolutely love this song! This is exactly (one of) the type of music that I really like: operatic/epic songs. For me, this song is top 5, one of my absolute favourites from ESC. Any song that gives me goosebumps deserves to be on a high spot. I just hope he really can perform it live.
I can also understand why people don't like this, and that's fine. I'd say that Vasil is probably the most skilled vocalist in ESC this year, with Ana being the only real competitor for that title.

Question: Normaly children aren't allowed on the stage but this year prerecorded backing vocals are allowed. So when it's a children's choir, will he be able to bring the vocals with him or do the same rules still apply?
