Wood turning - Silver birch hollow form.

Показать описание
Hello and welcome to my first video of 2022 and quite possibly my favourite finished piece of all time. A hollow form with feet from a beautiful chunk of spalted silver birch.

Initially mounted to the lathe using a faceplate but I flipped it around on tenons a couple of times during the turn to get the desired orientation.

Shaped, sanded to 400, sealed with shellac and polished with Yorkshire grit.

The feet were shaped using a belt sander then hand sanded and finished with shellac.

That's really a nice job you did there. Seems like Birch is going to be the wood of the year and I would be OK with that. 😎

I love the subtle grey hues in the wood. Have you ever considered adding a few drops of black india ink to the sealing medium to highlight this feature? Would like to see someone try this.
