CBSE Class 10 Science Chapter 6 - Life Process - Transportation in plants - Unlike humans plants do not have blood for the transportation of the nutrients, so they use the diffusion process. Diffusion is the movement of particles from higher concentration region to lower concentration region. Plants take their nutrients from the soil through roots and diffuse it to the other parts of it. This diffusion of nutrients is simpler in case of smaller plants as distance between the roots and the leaves of the plant is smaller but in case of taller trees this process is slow. So the trees have two types of transportation system conducted through :
1. Xylem: transports water and minerals from roots to leaves for the photosynthesis process.
2. Phloem: It is responsible for the transport of food from leaves to different parts of plant.
Transpiration process: Since the trees are taller there is not sufficient amount of pressure to move water from the roots up to the leaves. Transpiration process helps in moving water from roots to other parts through Xylem tissues. This process works simultaneously with photosynthesis process. When the stomatal pores open for the photosynthesis process the water evaporates from the leaves which creates the pressure of water towards the leaves.
Translocation process: It is the process of of transportation of food from leaves to other parts of the pant with the help of Phloem tissues.

A doubt
Phloems traffic is up and down on horizontal and vertical
@ 7:01 u are telling its up and down
At last in that table, u are telling that xylem is up and down whereas phloem goes horizontal and vertical
Please explain
