Slidebean: How they make their money.
Jose Cayasso is a Costa Rican graphics designer and entrepreneur. He has worked for Intel as a Trainer and Senior Support Agent. He covered desktop boards and processors for the North American region. This gave him a good experience with hardware and software support for about half a decade.
Slidebean is the brainchild of Caya aka Jose Cayasso.
Jose was born and raised in Costa Rica. He managed to get a job as an accelerator based in America. He moved to New York to pursue his dream as soon as he was accepted for the job. Slidebean is a cloud-based presentation tool software.
He has been able to reach millions of consumers all around the world and raise start-up funding.
Before his breakthrough company, he used his expertise and background in design and tech to run his creative content agency. Jose also has launched an iOS game which was even hailed as the next big Angry Bird by TechCrunch and CNN. The graphics in the game have been compared to Pixar movies by the business insider. The game was called Pota-Toss which was installed in over 300,000 devices that year. Saborstudio was also the first Costa Rican startup to be selected for a major US accelerator.
After all of these mini ventures and about 500 startups & DreamIt ventures, Jose expanded his team and then increased his revenue. He scaled back, lost money, and then went down just to catapult back on top of his startup with much more power. Here's a fun fact, Caya was also selected as one of the top 40 Costa Rican innovators by El Financiero Newspaper and was named the Innovation Champion by the Costa Rican Ministry of Science and Technology for the year 2012 and he spoke at the TEDx Joven Pura Vida Conference in Costa Rica with speakers like Luis Von Ahn and Michael Lindenmayer.
Slidebean was launched in mid-2013 it was a simplified cloud-based presentation tool but that was the second version and the first version was an idea to build a mobile gaming platform with a location-based concept. It was back in 2012 when the idea struck him, those days smartphone games were just starting to boom.
They were new and they had no idea about the whole venture capital concept. But they launched a Kickstarter campaign and they did reach their goal. It was a great success but things went crazy when their story got picked up by TechCrunch. Those were their demo days and they were working very hard to make it there. But the venture went out of business and so he began recovering and then assembled a new team to build his new product which became Slidebean. Slidebean has been featured in TechCrunch, TheNextWeb, and The Economist and was labeled the third most valuable internet start-up in Costa Rica.
The main objective was marketing and in the social media age, Facebook was a great way to reach more people for less money. This gathered a lot of attention but then they moved on to paid marketing with Google Ads. Caya admits that it was expensive but the most efficient way to acquire clients. They made their first twenty grand in revenue from Google ads.
Google ads gave them the boost but now they get all of their customers from organic searches. But that wasn't an easy process. It took years of work which also included creating blog posts around different topics related to startups which helped them create credibility and ranking high for their site and the brand authority. Today, Slidebean gets more than 250,000 views a month from its blogs and YouTube.
YouTube has been a great tool for the company and since then have found the perfect formula to make good content.
The company takes pride in designing powerful professional presentations in a matter of minutes. Slidebean makes 1.5 million dollars in revenue annually. The app today is used by more than 7,500 companies and they have built over 100,000 presentations on the platform.
The app makes money from the monthly subscription of eight dollars per month with a premium plan that might go upto about 19 dollars a month. They also have team plans with 39 dollars a month for three seats and an option to add more seats for ten dollars extra. This means the company has good money from the app and as for YouTube, they make about 1500 dollars a month.
