He also proposed a Negative Income Tax (i.e something similar to Universal Basic Income). :)

To me personally his economic arguments make the most sense.

“Highly regarded” to this day?! Then why do we ignore everything he and Thomas Sowell have said?!

It's worth noting that Friedman never _started_ monetarism. He was a remarkable populariser and communicator, but he wasn't the first person at Hoover to consider the macroeconomic effect of the money supply. Friedman's big contribution more had to do with critiquing the index associated with the valuation of treasury bonds.

I wonder what he's say about all the Quantitive Easing (renamed because it sounds better than Money Printing) that's been happening since the credit crunch.

It's interesting that I was recommended this short about Friedman after watching a video with F.D Signifier discussing his influence on Economics during the Reagan administration and onwards. Seeing how he's being praised for his ideas feels strange knowing what I know.

He certainly influenced me by his way of explaining economics in a interesting and easy to understand way when I discovered him a few years ago but the most influential economist is of course John Maynard Keynes. Friedman may have influenced the economy a bit during the Reagan years but before and after we have seen Keynesianism in pretty much every economy in the world. Had we listened more to Friedman we probably wouldn’t have to go through this inflation period. History repeats itself. He may have been a bit too extreme in his liberalism but at least he understood that there is no such thing as a free lunch and you can’t money print yourself out of trouble. I got exactly 0 of any money printed during the Covid years (There was no tax refund here it all just went to businesses) and yet I’m stuck having trouble paying for heat and food for my children because of over 10% inflation. At least the US managed somehow to degrease inflation but it is still going up here in Sweden. 10% isn’t even true since food has increased by 16% and heat by 300% and I need that than whatever increased less.

Though he is a very controversial figure he is very smart

John Maynard Keynes writings are cryptic. Karl Marx writings are childish and wishful thinking with a bunch of what if we die. Milton Friedman is very easy on the reading and makes arguments on available data.

Keynes never saw a television commercial for automobiles.

Economists have pretended that planned obsolescence has not been happening since Keynes took the long run.

Ever notice that the Depreciation of durable consumer goods is not included in the Net Domestic Product equation?
