This is not a product Apple wants a normal person to buy. It is for the devs and geeks who will actually use this productively.

I am happy when people simply say that it’s a lot of money, that is a fair argument! Not everyone has that money! I can’t stand when people say it’s overpriced without actually knowing about all the tech that’s packed in it. Plus when compared to its true competitor, the varjo xr-3, it’s actually extremely well priced (3500 usd vs 7000 usd).

For the price, I'd say it is only worth it if (1), the battery life on this thing lasts for more than 8 hours on a single charge, and (2), the AR thing isn't just blurry/delayed video feed streaming from the front cameras.

Hololens was nearly the same price and was really quirky, unfinished, heavy ect ect price was around 3800 if I well remember

If this performs as advertised, it will replace all static displays (TVs, monitors, smart displays) in a home and possibly replace a laptop. At that point, you’re breaking even at $3, 500 and possibly getting a lot more for the experience.

This reminds me of when “flatscreens” were all the rage in the early 2000’s - they also used to cost $3000-$5000, but today the average Joe can walk into Walmart and buy one for around $275. They know these headsets will be in high demand for a select group of people willing to pay a premium to “have it first”. I’m sure within a few years this technology will be much more affordable.

I think there’s a new thing called R1 (it’s a chip for the vr) but I think it should be somewhere between 250-500$

perhaps as time goes on, the tech will improve as well as the price.

Thing is, I think they know most of us cant afford it but also know that they’re really ahead in this market and even after taking losses they wont give up the lead. I’m a bit scared tbh but more excited to see where this will be in 5-10 years

The Quest 3 does all of that plus it even plays AR games and have 500 apps from day one

Well, when apple released it's phone it was way more expensive than other phones. When apple introduced their smart watches, it was way more expansive than others smart watches. I guess this will be the same.
