Amos Yee: Celeb parents say parents are to blame

Local actors Gurmit Singh and Quan Yi Fong both have teenage children, and they say that the responsibility of a child's behaviour falls squarely on the shoulder of the parents. They share their thoughts on the Amos Yee incident.

Parenting has a huge part to play in a child's life, formulating his character and behaviour at his initial stage of growing up. However, his surrounding and peers are the external influence, including the media and society at large. Such factors are more influential to his mental development as he moves into his young adult stage of life.

One cannot blame parents solely for his misbehaviour as he has a choice between what is right and wrong. There won't be criminals and bad habits if these aren't taught by parents. Which parent would like to see his own child go to jail?

A 16 year old has influence not just from parents, but mostly from peers and media. So, who is responsible for a growing up teen? THE MEDIA!
