Maurice Ravel was a French composer, pianist and conductor. He was born in Sibur, France, on March 7, 1875, and died in Paris, France, on December 28, 1937. He is considered one of the most outstanding composers of the 20th century.

Ravel started studying music at the age of five. He entered the Paris Conservatoire in 1894, where he studied with Maurice Duc and Charles Vidor. In 1901, he received a first degree diploma in composition.

After graduating from the Conservatory Ravel began writing music in various styles, including Impressionism, neoclassicism and jazz. He has also composed operas, ballets, symphonies, concerts, chamber music and piano works.
