Conservatives suffer huge losses in local elections

By any measure it's been a grim day for the Conservatives - they lost the by-election for an MP in Blackpool South thanks to a massive swing to Labour, they're on track to lose around half of the local election council seats they contested and their projected national vote share is down to a dismal 25%.

With so many losses, Rishi Sunak has described the night as 'disappointing'. But he’s sure voters will stick with the Tories come the general election.

Ben Houchen distanced himself as much as possible from the Tories, he even omitted blue from his campaign. That's why he managed to win.
