Let's take a look back to the 2014 F1 season - the low point in F1 history.
The cars changed to complicated, unreliable drivetrains with bad sound and the cars were as ugly as never before because of the new nose regulations.

How did this happen?
What did the regulations say specifically?
And how did the teams try to get an advantage from it?

Let me know which one was your favourite F1 car in 2014 in the comments below!

When Hammond said: "You don't want to get rear ended by that." ☺☺☺

I’ve always wondered if it could be possible to slot the “fallic” nose into Lotus’ one, just like Tetris.

i quite like the double tusk design of the Lotus, reminds me of the walrus nose Williams-BMW
to quote Top Gear about the 2014 season: formula strap-on

I find intriguing is that the initial ugly high nose trend of the '90s gave way to a nicer looking low nose trend of the 2000s, until 2009 rules favoured high noses again. Why is that?

F1: “let’s reduce costs for teams!”
Also F1: “btw we’re changing the regulations every 6 months DEAL WITH IT”

My favorite is the Caterham CT05, they're slow and drives like a shitbox, basically it's utter chaos in terms of performance and yet i just love it (especially the original one, not the lame black nose that came out later). Probably i like it mainly because of the BRG color and Airbus sponsor, if they have a hint of yellow like the CT03 it'll be the perfect.

Lotus was the best looking by far, it actually looked like some form of a racing car and not a cartoon character named Squidward.

Awesome video! I would like to ask if you can do a video on the new zo6 gt3?

Rather than just making a not so inconspicuous appendage(s) to comply with the regulation, Red Bull and Mercedes' interpretation shows they acually tried to maximize their design for their respective cars.

Ferrari's nose looks like it was left in the oven for too long

I still remember Ted Kravitz interview with the Caterham guy with a banana in his hand.

Imagine the Toro Rosso and the Lotus having a head-on collision

Would the high noses seen in 2012 have been beneficial to earlier, say, 2008 cars or was it due to the inert center sections of the front wings that made them beneficial?

5:02 No man, I actually prefer these 2014 cars over the current ones, they were smaller and had nice liverys, the only bad part was the nose, the current cars are too big, and they keep taking the paint off to save weight, it's a disgrace, and all liverys have matte paint (which i hate). Seriously, I don't like any of the 2023 liveries because they're all awful and it ruins any chance I'm going to like these cars. And the Halo also messes up the on-board camera making it look like a bathtub on wheels, so I definitely like the 2014 cars better. Also, Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull had a nice nose, Williams had nice curves in the nose, Lotus was different but I didn't think it was ugly and Toro Rosso's second nose was way better than the first.

I never got the hate, actually rather liked the ingenuity to get around the regs.

2013 to 2014 was the biggest downgrade in modern f1 by FAR.

the fact that the nose designs stayed relatively stagnant between 2015 and 2021 is the worst part of this rule change from 2014

I really hope there's an old E22 nose out there somewhere...

Dangerous design if you work in the pits

I have to admit, I kind of liked the Lotus. It was at least novel and not nearly as hideous as the others.

The Renault Lotus is far from the ugliest car. It's just French and a bit out there. I kind like it under the circumstances.
