This guys really knows his stuff! Get him back on after he drives the bronco, I want to hear what he has to say about that.

If there is space for 35in tire I like it. 2k payload and 8k towing, with 35 inch tires and lockers you get serious overland capability.

Roman, the checker plate is plastic because of European crash regulation where it has to deform for pedestrian safety. If they had used aluminum like our old Defenders it would now be considered as a guillotine to pedestrians.
Great podcast btw keep it up chaps 🙏

PS - Did you see the v8 5.0 from SVR

I’m sure there will be Landrover fans that will correct me, but I’m pretty sure traction control was invented for the Freelander 1 in 1997
I did a free day with Landrover at Eastnor Castle and my instructor told me he wanted to hate it because he didn’t think it was worthy of the Landrover badge
The bottom line for Landrover is, that everything they build has to go where they say it can, so they developed the terrain system to make sure it would pass their tests . The instructor was part of the Freelander development team so he knew what he was talking about and in the end he admitted it was worthy of the badge

The new Defender is just a grown up Discovery. The designers should have looked at what Mercedes did with the G Wagon.

I love that this guy really understands not only off roading but the auto industry as well. When he said we (meaning wishful thinking car buyers) often want manufacturers to produce cars they can't make money with, I thought, finally, the one guy who gets it. Catering to soccer moms seems like blasphemy to the enthusiast. Unfortunately, catering too much to the enthusiast is a sure fire way to go out of business. Soccer moms and dads have money. Some enthusiasts also have money but many just have dreams. Funny thing is though the enthusiast with money wants to build a rig the way he wants it and would really just prefer an affordable and reliable platform to build it from. Once said platform depreciates enough not to worry about it getting scratched and dented, that is. The new Defender will be more than capable enough for all the people who actually buy them. Including the very few who are willing to risk a brand new fifty to seventy thousand dollar rig on something more severe than an old logging road.

10 years from now when you are in middle of Namibia and all the electronics freak out.

Will Land Rover be around 5 to 10 years from now?.

Loving these interview programs! They have a Defender at the Land Rover in Darien CT. It looks great - the front is clearly the weak point, but it’s still very nice. The interior looks fantastic (through the window). Honestly, I’m seriously thinking about getting one, but I somehow feel like I should have learned my lesson on Land Rovers and I’m worried that all the technology that will make this a supremely capable vehicle, will also prove to be its Achilles heel. That said, Roman is right that Land Rovers really do ride better than anything actually capable of going off road and they do have personality - even the new ones. That said, my Land Cruiser feels like it will run forever. Very tempting, though.

Love the option for a front middle seat. Fritz the Standard Poodle will love it. Assuming it has a seatbelt for his car-harness.
EDIT: Just did a build on the LR configurator, there is a seatbelt in the center seat. WooHoo!

BTW, if this thing is comparable to a 4Runner TRD Pro off road then it's a slam dunk. Rock crawling is not the only kind of off roading and there are a lot of vehicles better than a Wrangler for most of them.

It’s so nice to see Mica aggravated and sulk that he can’t find anything bad on the New a Defender.
