In this segment, Dr. Sarah-Kate LaVan from the Michigan Department of Education discussed how the state recruits teacher candidates from different avenues and provides networking and support for teachers from diverse backgrounds. Dr. Kathryn Obenchain from Purdue University and Dr. Leah Nellis from Indiana University Kokomo shared their university Grow Your Own programs, which allow teacher candidates to gain meaningful experience while staying connected to their home communities.
