Silvopasture Grasses | First Time Grazing in Tall Grass

What is silvopasture system? How do you improve grass for grazing?

Welcome to our channel and in this video we will talk about silvopasture system and you will see we are moving cattle for rotational grazing to tall grass. In today's paddock we have a little bit of a wooded area with some trees and some taller grass and the girls are taking full advantage of these silvopasture grasses.

Silvopastoral systems are those that combine tree growing with the production of livestock. These systems typically include pasture systems containing trees that are widely spaced or planted in clusters throughout the pasture. The system may be used primarily to provide shelter for animals. Some are very effective at providing more favorable conditions for livestock with increased survival and body weight of the animals when using an effective silvopastoral system.

This tall grass is perfect for grazing. The cattle will eat the tops of the plants first, as that's where the energy is. Much of the grass will be consumed and some will be trampled. But the trampled grass is not wasted; some of it will continue photosynthesis for a period, and all of it eventually will feed microbial soil life, enriching the pasture. Allowing grass to grow tall is good pasture management for grass-fed beef.

Tall grass grazing relies on the relationship between the pasture plants and the soil microbial organisms. This relationship, based on nutrient cycling, is the key to growing nutritious and plentiful pasture. Whether growing warm or cool season grasses or both, depending on your growing region tall grass grazing eliminates fertilizer applications while keeping animals healthy and productive.
Grazing tall is all about allowing the natural cycling of nutrients time to occur, and capitalizing on the resulting growth of pasture forages to put on gain. When a plant photosynthesizes, it uses sunlight to capture carbon and churn out sugars which feed the leaves and stems, and these feed the livestock, who then fertilize the land with their excretions.

In last video i failed to move our water stock, today we will move it and fill it up with enough water for two days. Hopefully they're going to clean this area for us; i might come on Sunday and spend some additional time clearing some of the brush to make this area real nice for them.
i've seen you guys pour over the comments, thank you all I hope you all the best and I hope you stick around and see how we take this now small and insignificant hurt and grow it into something amazing.

I never doubted your sled. I think it looks good and sturdy. Looking forward to seeing it stand the test of time and be just as useful a year from now and beyond. I am jealous I am so far behind you.

Haha Proverbs 1:7, I just put Prov 9:10 on a different video the other day and someone put 1:7. It's so true!

If you have some square bales, just a few it will be very simple to spread on bare spots and minimize hay loss. Just a thought
