That's wrong actually, the end portal tiles still generate and that actually cut off the head from the piston, but because piston heads are rendered from the piston base blocks (the piston head block is actually invisible) they look like theyre still there! :D

Fun fact: if you break the portal after placing those activated pistons in bedrock edition you can go through the piston.

Actually as far as I'm aware they don't prevent the portal blocks from forming, but actually sort of fuse with the portal, making it look like it prevented the portal blocks from forming but you can still jump in (tell me if I am wrong)
