"When managed and traded responsibly, legally mined diamonds can serve as a catalyst in the improvement and accelerations of the standards of living of millions of people.
And so we have a duty. We have a duty to the miners who depend on diamonds for their livelihoods. We have a duty to demonstrate to nations blessed with natural resources that prosperity can replace poverty. And we have a duty to future generations to ensure that cooperation triumphs over conflict."
Ambassador Roet addressed the General Assembly on the Kimberley Process.
