Sorry guys, my Angler H2O Xpress baitcast combo is great! Casts like a dream, functions perfectly, smooth drag, and after initial reel adjustments...no backlash. If you are on a tight budget, don't hesitate to buy.

I love the rod but I’ve had 2 of the reels and they were completely different the one I have now I can cast a country mile on 10 breaks it’s not really great at skipping or pitching short distances always a minor backlash. And the handles are so small but it’s cool I guess😂

When you cast does your reel make a sound like it has a dc chip on it or just mine.

I have the baitcaster. Mine backlashed a lot as well... It will smooth out and cast pretty good. It’s now my new friend. Took an hour or 2 to smooth out. Used the supplied line. Maybe they are a hit and miss. Mine is running flawlessly after a couple hours.

My story with this rod and reel combo is almost identical. I got it at academy sports in Johnson city Tennessee. Before I ever even cast it, it had backlashed. I ended up having to cut all the line it came with off because we lined poorly. I'm hoping that was the issue as I'm sitting here with just the reel in hand and planning on putting fresh line on it. I'm VERY novice so it could have been my fault but even after it was fixed and I had someone much more experienced try it the same thing happened. The only thing that helped was thumbing the line when I cast

Nope those backlash they are just you I had that combo for 4yrs and works perfectly

Have the same baitcaster. Purchased at Academy for 39.95 and works like a dream. Never had a backlash.... But. I always thumb my spoon. Ronald. Orlando

Fix the setting for the baitcast I have the same one from academy and it is smooth mad smooth awesome and I have for 4 yrs and it works like a charm If you want more proof check out (realistic fishing) new video he made it with that rod and reel

I also have to say that it definitely wasn't "your fault" when I watched this video I confirmed what we thought which was that it was poorly set up. In fact the first open faced reel I bought from academy did the same thing essentially

That reel doesnt work well with fluorocarbon or monofilament. BUT!!! It works great with braid. I use that reel for my top water setup.
