Should I Strap My SPG to My Wrist? #AskMark @BingSurjawan

#askmark Hi Mark, with my neck issues I have a bit of difficulties looking deep low to check my SPG boltsnaped to my waist D-ring. Is there other position/location to have your SPG on standby? Thinking probably tied to the big hose next to the inflator or bungeed on my arm like a dive watch. Wireless air is ideal but may need some times for me to save enough to buy. Appreciate your thoughts.

I prefer clipped off at the waist (DIR) as Mark described.
I have seen some divers do over the shoulder and down the large deflate hose. They use a shorter HP hose so the pressure gauge doesn't cause problems with using the inflator. And they attach the HP hose to the deflate hose. My observation is many go back to attaching at the waist.

I have AI, but keep an spg as a backup. I put mine on a shorter hp hose that runs over my shoulder and bungees to the lower chest D ring on my left side. It’s very easy to look down and see it, and it does away with any extra hose that may stick out and get tangled on things.

A retractor or a bungee both can be combined with a bolt snap.

Before AI, I was using spg on retractor. Don't have to bother with cliping and uncliping. Just pull, read, and let it go 😊

Hi Mark :) Could you maybe create a small video series about sidemount diving?
Specifically, which system you think is the best (xdeep, apeks, razor, etc.).
Then, the actual setup of the harness and attaching the bottles. Some small improvement tips on what can be done to further tweak and improve your system... sliding D-ring or fixed... about the rigging of the bottles and attaching them to the harness...
Entry from the boat (backwards or jumping from the platform), securing the bottles so they don’t hit you in the face when you jump in :D

I did what Mark suggested and waited for the sales around Xmas. Got the Suunto Eon Core plus transmitter for under £600 last year 😊

My Aqua Lung Omni has mounts for the Octopus and SPG. Mad that it didn't come with the Trim Pockets for the price I paid

Can you please explain the dive industry’s current obsession with fleece and compressed fleece exposure suits? I understand the value of fleece undergarments for drysuits, but every brand seems to be rolling out a fleece based exposure suit as an alternative to a wetsuit. I understand the marketing of this material as easier to dawn and doff, comfort in range of motion, and claiming to be neutrally buoyant. My question revolves around the fleece material’s thermodynamics. How does it keep someone warm without isolating the circulation of water? Many of these products have no seals and are porous as well. Is this use of fleece truly a revolutionary material for the industry, or is it a cheap alternative with creative marketing. I don’t know how to discuss this material and how it works when customers come in the shop with questions about it. (SharkSkin and LavaCore to name a few)

Hi Mark, know anything about Poseidon regulators? (xstream, cyklon etc) There isn't an awful lot online about them other than some love them or hate them 🤔

Hey Mark, I hope you are doing well.
I just got dry suit certified using a trilaminate Drysuit Argonauts 2.0 and 4thelemten hallo 3D and now I am looking forward for my new set (on this set after 15min I started to feel little bit cold). About the Drysuit I am looking for the Seal Drysuit, is it possible to elaborate little bit on it, about build quality? And what would you suggest for undergarment since I dive most of the time on the lakes here in Switzerland that the temperature on the bottom varies between 4-7C.
Thanks a lot to share your knowledge with us.

Hi Mark

I just wonder, why are boots or socks attached to dry suits, but gloves aren't?
Sure it makes sense to attache boots, but why not also gloves?

Thanks for answering! 👌

Hi Mark,
I recently purchased a DUI Drysuit. It’s a great suit, but the only issue I’ve come across is the choice for dry gloves. The DUI dry gloves system requires the seals to be swapped out for gloves, which creates two problems: no redundancy, and kitting up is a real challenge wearing dry gloves. Do you have recommendations for another way to keep your fingers warm with a DUI suit?
Thanks and love all the great content!

If you have a transmitter, why use a spg?
The less stuff you have hanging around, the better.
You have one less thing to check, and one less that can go wrong

All of this and no mention of retractors?

My local dive shop only teaches OW students in ScubaPro Air2. They do not even show a single demonstration of a standard octo set up. At the time of my training there I thought it was kind of odd and now 500 dives later I think it's pretty crazy. What are your thoughts?

Use AI and leave the spg behind. Everything you need on your computer. Easy
