If anyone is wondering why the black hole looks different in the film than the picture. It's because the picture we took is like a "top view" so the disc is only visible around it. In the movie it is taken from the side. Just imagine Saturn. You can take a picture of Saturn from the above where the disc doesn't go through the middle but is around it. And if you take the picture from the side then the disc would go through the middle.

The black hole on interstellar is from 2014 our most recent image capture for humans was 2019 just for the fact that they came so close to describe a black hole before we knew how it looks is fantastic great movie Christopher Nolan bad ass
