Ian did the right thing, his mom abused him for 11 years of his life and thinks he will stay with her, he protected her name, he made sure no one would know about the horrible things she did to him, even though she never cared for him, he cared for her, and he took the right step by leaving and saying "I did nothing wrong".

I feel bad for Ian's mom but also understand where Ian is coming from...

They were going through a tough time when Ian's dad died and she in no way made anything better, she made things worse. But I think that now that Ian is older it's starting to hit her and she feels bad and wants him back, but now it's too late unless Ian changes his mind
