Van Morrison - Moondance (Bass Cover) (Play Along Tabs In Video)

Tips And Comments:

- Playing Technique: Played next to the neck with low to mid intensity. Neck pickup full tone

- Gear Sound: Just DI, not much more. A bit of compression, bit of bass

- About The Song: Here's a great song to begin with walking lines (me included). It's very important to practice this knowing what notes are you playing and how they relate to the harmony, so then you can create your own walk. I recommend to study the original line and the functions of it, then creating around chord tones, first tonic, then fifth, thirds and so on. Then applyin more scale relations and tensions, passing notes, etc

So for the verse you have Am7 and Bm7. They relate creating a dorian feel to the Am key of the song (shifting F to F#). Here are the chord tones:

Am7 (A C E G)
Bm7 (B D F# A)
A Dorian scale (A B C D E F# G)

For chorus you have Dm7, Am7, then finally E7 and a riff. Relation now is more into A natural for Dm7, Am7 and for the dominant you have G#, so you can create more tension with even a harmonic minor A

Dm7 (D F A C)
E7 (E G# B D)

A Harmonic Minor (A B C D E F G#)

Passing notes are important and will give you more glue to the line. They are just notes that pass through one consonant note (chord tone, scale) to another creating a resolving dissonance.

Please if you have more questions or you want to help me explaining this better, use the comments!

Glad to see you're branching into walking bass lines. Maybe now I'll donate to the patreon so I can get "If I didn't have you" You know, the theme to monsters Inc. Fantastic bass walk there

Someone said this song is not hard..[!?] I'm a pretty decent player but the song has always intimidated me and it's killing me trying to learn it. I just don't have the musical wherewithal to figure out all the modes, I have to learn it note for note by the tablature. Just mechanically drilling it so I can get it under my fingers. I can feel the flow of it but my goodness this is hard. Thank you very much!

It's not a very difficult bass line, but it's fun to play. (I Don't Want to Go to) Chelsea by Elvis Costello. Try it out sometime!

Anyone else getting a severe drop in video quality from 3:00 to about 4:16? The tab is unreadable during that time. First time that has ever happened to me and there is nothing wrong with my connection. Every other video looks fine.
