USS Lexington docked in Corpus Christi Texas.

Corpus Christi TX: Nicknamed "Blue ghost" by the Japanese for its ability to reappear after reportedly being sunk. The USS Lexington was commissioned in 1943 by the US Navy and saw extensive service in the Pacific in WWII.
The location of a Japanese flag painted on the tower is where a kamikaze plane hit Nov 5 1944 killing 50.
The ship now calls Corpus Christi Texas home and is open to the public for tours.
Thanks for watching.

I served on the Lex from 81-84. She was a helluva boat....a bunch of kids in charge of training our pilots. We were proud of what we did then... and am proud to have served on her. God bless America

I was one of her decommissioning crew and served onboard from 1989-1991. I loved my ship.

I toured the Lexington in 1997 & literally got chills while aboard. The sense of its history & the heroic men (&women?) serving on this magnificent ship was almost overwhelming! Very much worth the visit.

I served on her from 67 to 69... man I'm glad she was never chopped up.... Oh wow.. that rear gun station was my Battle Station.. My office was above the hanger under the flight deck... I watched the first foot step on the moon in the Captains Cabin... on a black and white tv... I was the ships magazine editor.. back then.

I was A-Division Officer on the Lex, 1968-69. We left P-Cola with our cars tied down to the flight deck and sailed to the Boston Naval Shipyard for overhaul. I was 25 years old and my ride was a 1968 Firebird-400. Captain Hammet's car was the only vehicle stowed in the hangar deck. I was released from active duty November '69. Fifty years have gone by and now at age 75, my ride is a '98 Corvette with license plate "ISERVED". The Firebird was stolen in 1970 while I was living in Boston and was recovered in a used car lot in California in 1973 when I was working as an engineer in Seattle. I stayed in the Seattle area and have been living in the same house since 1978.

I served on her from May 61 - May 62. Made one WestPac cruise on her. Was transferred to the USS Ranger CVA-61 just before she left to go around the "Horn".
Served in OE division as an Electronics Technician atriker (ETSN).
