I don't have a favourite author but between these two I prefer Dahl.

I think he started saying he was the new Roald Dahl hoping it would catch on. Anyone with eyes can see that's what he's going for, then acts all surprised when Dahl is mentioned- 'oh how flattering!' (that my agent told you to say that...)

Walliams wishes. The only author who has ever goten close to Dahl's unique imagination is J K Rowling.
