The best advice is to visit where you want to go. Regardless of if it’s “too touristy” hello we’re all tourists, or completely not a tourist place. I gain inspiration from books and movies and artists I like. Food and music that’s interesting to me. Nice hiking.

The one thing I will say about business class is, if you can afford it, it makes a HUGE difference on long haul flights. Like a 10 hour flight in coach vs business class is night and day. But also, most economy plus is a more affordable upgrade that makes a big difference on longer flights.

From bali here, trust me, the locals welcome tourists since for many it’s their main source of income. Yes it is crowded in some place especially the ‘touristy’ ones like changgu. But changgu isn’t really the place you’d want to go if you want to experience authentic bali style, I’d recommend renting a villa in ubud instead. If you’re from most of europe, america, canada, singapore, japan, etc etc, Bali is incredibly cheap. As long as you don’t show up naked at the balinese temple (trust me, it happened before), come here, seriously.

COME TO WALES! Like people have been sleeping on it for too long, we have some of the most beautiful and natural beaches in the world, my recommendation as a welsh person is broadhaven, freshwater-west Tenby. These are all south west wales beaches or in other words Pembrokeshire beaches

Iceland is a place that truly loved up to all of the social media hype. It’s even more gorgeous in person.

Go where you want to go. That’s the best advice.

I had this mindset too, until my last trip to Italy. I was so sure I’d hate Amalfi coast because it’s so touristy, but honestly it was probably the most beautiful place I’ve ever been in. Seeing the sun set over the beach while siting on one of the mountains surrounded by vines was amazing and brought me to tears. Yes the towns themselves were pretty crowded but I’d never skip it. I’ve lived by the beach my entire life and I’ve yet to seen anything like that.

Completely agree!!!! We travel in our van all the time and let the wind blow us...France last year was amazing!!! We had a vineyard all to ourselves..we go where we want to not where social media says we should go.

I always recommend local tourism, if that makes sense. Like, the next town over to you has some amazing hidden gems you’ve never experienced even though you’re close

I moved back to Rome after 10 years of being in the US and it got MUCH more crowded and chaotic, but I never lost my love for it. I always love it when tourists ask about lesser known places in or around Rome and in Italy in general. Rome is too crowded. It’s beautiful, yes, but too crowded. If tourism were more balanced throughout Italy it would make it much easier on locals. For example, Vietri instead of Amalfi; Padova instead of Verona, Vicenza is also a beautiful place in my opinion.

I love riding through Northern Spain on my motorbike. The roads are amazing, and you get to see real the Spain. I never want to stay in a tourist hotspot again.

Hi! I live in Indonesia, though not in Bali. As far as I know though most people in Bali aren't sick of tourists, and although Bali prices can be more expensive that other places in Indonesia, compared to the US dollar or the Euro, prices are very cheap!

One bucket-list location that is actually worth visitng is Cappadocia. Go there during spring when the plum trees are in bloom. It is still too windy for the majority of influencers to be comfy.

This place feels like it is from other dimension and the scenery is to die for. Also if you are a Christian: visiting the Black Church is the best religious experience i ve ever had!!

Also some places make for sick drone shots but are TERRIBLE to go to. As someone who grew up in Salt Lake City the Great Salt Lake looks amazing on camera but bro it sucks to actually be there. The beach by the Saltaire is littered with dead birds, the water makes your skin hurt and it REEKS, the brine flies are constantly flying at you and the water is color corrected so it’s not that blue.

imo business class/ any other upgrade is only worth it for long flights. but even then, check what coach is like in the planes your airline uses for long haul flights before getting business class, especially if it’s not an airline you’ve flown with before! coach isn’t always as cramped it is as on US airliners. for example, i had an ~18 hour flight on japan airlines and i was more than comfortable in coach.

I love every word of this. Influencers are the bane of my existence. Unqualified and unintelligent.

I am from the west coast of Australia and Bali is a common travel destination here and I have had a close family member live there as well. Tourism is a core business for the Balinese people and they were BADLY hit during Covid. Locals warmly welcome visitors to their country - Balinese are super friendly people. I think most countries appreciate tourism as a contributor to GDP. It is definitely an integral part of the Balinese economy, so saying that the ‘locals are sick of the tourists’ would be like saying that a ‘restaurant is sick of having customers’. So if people want to go, I’d definitely encourage them! It can be the difference between eating or not. Or putting their kids in school or not. There are the popular spots which have more people (like Kuta), but it also has more secluded areas to explore. But if I see Kuta packed full of tourists, it makes me happy to know that there are kiddies with full bellies that night. And it’s very cheap there (compared to Australia).

As a Balinese, I agree. There are too many tourists. Like go travel to Java or Sumatra or somewhere else in Indonesia. The view is just as beautiful.

I really like traveling to more off the beaten path places. Sumatra or Java instead of Bali. I really don’t like feeling the sense that I’m just another tourist among the thousands. Sometimes the locations are less spectacular but the feeling is superior of being in place where you can connect with the locals a little bit.
