NOTAM for Ballistic Missile launch
The recent NOTAM or area warning issued by India has triggered quite a enthusiasm among the defence enthusiasts as the length of the NOTAM issued is massive 3,300 KM. For your reference Agni-4 has a range of between 3,500 to 4000 km. Therefore its quite obvious that this test which is scheduled between 6th to 7th of June is going to be for ballistic missile, but which one we will be discussing in today's video.
Agni-1Prime
On 28th June 2021 DRDO had successfully test fired nuclear capable Agni prime missile for the first time. On 18th December 2021, DRDO has conducted 2nd successful test of AGNI PRIME missile. The Agni prime uses latest technologies than its predecessors. That's why the development of Agni Prime test is considered as a big milestone in India's ballistic missile development program. Its highly likely that the recent test which is going to be conducted between 6th to 7th of June is going to be of Agni Prime as an anti-ship ballistic missiles targeted for aircraft carriers.
As per former DRDO Chief Agni prime has capability to kill moving target. Which means the missile is Manoeuvrable re-entry vehicle and it can hit aircraft carriers and manoeuvrable warships. The Agni P as we know is a two-stage canisterised, solid propellant, ballistic missile with dual redundant navigation and guidance system. It is capable of carrying payload of 1,000 kg (2,200 lb) with a range of 1000 to 2000 km. Agni Prime can evade any ballistic missile system. It is much stealthier than previous Agni series due to usage of composite materials. Since it is a canister launched missile, it can be launched from rail and road and stored for a longer period of time and can be transported all across the country as per operational requirements.
Agni-4 Mark 2
The second missile that could possibly be tested during this period could be Agni-4 Mark2. Agni-4 is an intermediate range ballistic missile having range of 3,500-4000km. The DRDO had produced and proven many new state of the art technologies with the Agni-IV like composite rocket motors, very high accuracy Ring Laser Gyro based Inertial Navigation System, Micro Navigation System, Digital Controller System and very powerful onboard computer system.
It can carry a warhead of 1 tonne and is designed to increase the kill efficiency along with a higher range performance. Having a length of 20 meters and launch weight of 17 tonnes, the missile can be fired from a road mobile launcher. DRDO is working on further improving the Agni-4 missile to defeat anti-ballistic missile systems. The radar cross-section and other detectable signatures of Agni-IV have been significantly reduced to make them much more immune to counter-measures. Therefore its expected the upcoming test is most likely going to be Agni-4 Mark2.
