Hotels will be fine. I personally don't really like the airbnb experience. I don't want to deal with the weirdo owner, I just want to check in, have my room cleaned. If this becomes a problem for hotels, I'll be enjoying the discount rate they offer to stay competitive. Airbnb is overrated.

At this point hacking is something that is inevitable and that companies can only have so much control over. The best thing for us users/consumers to do is provide as little of our information as possible. Of course this is challenging given how we live now a days but taking certain steps goes a long way

It is a war. Some cities like Santa Monica, a very popular tourist city in Los Angeles, has made it very difficult to list a property on Airbnb. Owners have to have a business license, which is fair, and have to be on premises. A big reason is because hotels have the union lobby which donates/influence the City Council to keep them at bay. Why?, because you said it, it is costing them $$$

I have a theory but it will take about 50 years to know if I'm right. It goes like this. Once an industry has been disrupted it is easier to disrupt it a second time. Once you get used to the idea of bookstores being gone it's easier to imagine Amazon being gone. And so on. The only solution to avoid being a hunter that becomes the hunted? Self-cannibalism maybe? I don't know for sure..
