The Hoysaleswara temple is a Shaivism tradition monument, yet reverentially includes many themes from Vaishnavism and Shaktism tradition of Hinduism, as well as images from Jainism. The Hoysaleswara temple is a twin-temple dedicated to Hoysaleswara and Santaleswara Shiva lingas, named after the masculine and feminine aspects, both equal and joined at their transept. It has two Nandi shrines outside, where each seated Nandi face the respective Shiva linga inside. The temple includes a smaller sanctum for the Hindu Sun god Surya. It once had superstructure towers, but no longer and the temple looks flat. The temple faces east, though the monument is presently visited from the north side. Both the main temples and the Nandi shrines are based on a square plan. The temple was carved from soapstone. It is notable for its sculptures, intricate reliefs, detailed friezes as well its history, iconography, inscriptions in North Indian and South Indian scripts. The temple artwork provides a pictorial window into the life and culture in the 12th century South India. About 340 large reliefs depict the Hindu theology and associated legends. Numerous smaller friezes narrate Hindu texts such as the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the Bhagavata Purana. Some friezes below large reliefs portray its narrative episodes.

BEYOND amazing, actually, unexplainable, show me any other country who has anything even remotely close to this type of stone carved art work, I mean ya can't, because there isn't any, any where that can come close to rivaling this. Ancient mysteries = ancient blessings. Om namah Shivaya,

Its beyond our imagination...beyond our intellect....beyond our logic.... beyond our capable rationality.... it seems each and every inch of this temple is a work of divinity.... the level of intricacy....the level of perfection.... everything is beyond our perception....

The Architecture, the Aesthetic beauty, the Structural Engineering, the Mathematics behind such structure, the very Imagination of the structure dropping and mesmerizingly beautiful mysterious every curving has a particular message for its viewers.... entire epic is descried on stone.... no two figure is same am

Who are these Devine craftsman??? How did they get such unimaginable skills ??? What sort of knowledge they had ??? Most strikingly where did that knowledge goes ??? How did that knowledge get vanished from our country....

I am overwhelmed with joy to discover this video but at the same time am feel extremely sad and depressed that we have lost soo much .. completely unknown of our past...

We Indian must take initiative to restore our past glory.... we have been mislead and misinterpreted about our actual past ....

I'm sure these most amazing beautiful masterpieces in stone are far far older than we're told. The absolute intricate and detailed carvings in some of the hardest rock on Earth is not made with copper chisels and stone hammers, a real mystery to how it was constructed. Just memorizing.

Incredibly ornate sculptures! Done before the invention of modern tools. The broken parts of the sculptures testify to the savagery of subsequent Islamic rulers of India. Barbarians who neither understood the Hindu theology nor the architectural splendor of these temples. Every Hindu must be proud of his or her heritage. Om Nama Shivaya!
