Hi friends! Here are my thoughts on the McCall's latest Pattern Release! This is the late Summer Collection. I don't think I'll be buying anything from this collection. But I wanted to share my thoughts.

I, too, believe the 1950's Simplicity vintage pattern is a full slip and a half slip. (I'm old enough to remember when women actually wore these!). I always appreciate your detailed reviews, pointing out details I might not otherwise notice. I especially like how you compared the new patterns to something similar that is already out there!

Great analysis. It's like there are two different designers - one that likes to show lots of skin and one that wants to disguise a woman's body completely in a shroud. I do think the first dress is cute if you have a lot more confidence than I have.

8314 is a Halloween costume, if you want to dress up as a flying squirrel or as a skydiver.

I appreciate you showing us the comparable patterns. I see a lot of repetition too with details that are now on trend.

Appreciate your honest opinion. I think the big 4 are catering to younger sewist, as they may need patterns, at this stage, for every detail change. As you noted if we have these alternate patterns we likely could achieve the same look. I love and wear the cutouts and I am not young. I have a huge pattern stash. Anything I or my daughters (or sons and husband for that matter ) want say a trendy detail I can likely draft it with a pattern I currently have as a base. Fashion repeats itself and we all know that. I been sewing 40 years and only gotten rid of a pattern I spilled coffee on. I kept all my patterns and many of my Moms patterns. My family used to buy me patterns when they found them..so I have patterns

Thank you so much for sharing this collection! I went to Joann yesterday because randomly they had McCall's on sale (not advertised) and I messed up my copy of M8221 and needed another copy (a TNT of mine) so when I caught wind that McCalls was on sale, I went!. When I saw this video come up I was of course worried about what I missed out on when the new ones were right under my nose! Thankfully there are really NO patterns I would run out for this time. I adore the cut out tops so much! But not for me! Also the baggy styles just don't look great on me. I am so thankful for your video and the time you spent showing us the ones we more than likely have in our pattern stashes. I'm grateful for you! I'm grateful for your honest opinions!

I appreciate you mentioning patterns that are alike. I already have a big Big4 collection of patterns, so right now I am really picky. I am only buying patterns that are my style, unique and not similar to something I already have. Anyway, that squirrel jumpsuit looks hideous in my opinion. I am not a big fan of jumpsuits either.

McCalls 8314 looks like a thanksgiving turkey! The short romper version is cute. That 8319 is EXACTLY the skirt I have been looking for (made one like it in 1977). That will be the only one I'll purchase at the next sale. Thank you for sharing all of these.

M8325 also reminds me of simplicity 9605....sadly I was not impressed with these new patterns
