I have been in aviation for almost 30 years. The FAA's motto is "we are not happy unless you are not happy" or " lets take something simple and see just how complicated we can make it". Great video by the way.

Even after watching I'm still as confused about these "new" rules as I was 2 years ago... FAA makes this so easy to understand... Thanks for the breakdown!

I feel like I can’t fly anywhere without getting in the car and driving 100 miles in the middle of nowhere. I was going to buy a drone but now I definitely have second thoughts.

The restrictions on drones have effectively eliminated the growth in the hobby

It went by pretty quickly, but I believe that after the "recreational" exception he talked about, everything after concerned Part 107 operations. He cautions about adding prop guards and batteries that could put you over the 250 gram limit thus requiring Remote ID. This is true, but since he's talking about Part 107, and part 107 is primarily for commercial operations, you must register and have Remote ID even if your drone weighs just 50 grams. The less than 250 gram exception for Remote ID does not apply to commercial Part 107 operations.

Following Federal Laws is easy..Do Not Comply

Yikes. FAA can't just keep things simple. Thanks for explaining though, helps me be more clear on things than before.

Define "Over"?? If I am above them but not directly, am I over them? how far away constitutes "over"

The thing that is so damn frustrating is that zero examples are given for what constitutes an "open air assembly." Hell, we don't even know what "flying over people" really means. If I'm flying downtown, and I fly over a pedestrian, is that allowed? What if I'm at a park? How far away do the people need to be before I'm not considered "above" them?
I hate how obnoxiously complicated they made all of this.

Nicely done! The way I remember it is that Part 107 does NOT allow for flights over people without a waiver, UNLESS the drone meets the requirements of Subpart D.

I'm a brand new drone pilot recreational flyer and just started about a week ago and I'm reading up on all drone videos and so far it sounds like the FAA is trying to limit and restrict people flying without remote ID.. seems as they want to make sure they know who creates injury to others and that they can identify them in case of civil suit

So what your saying is we're all breaking the rules and it's just a matter of time before we're caught. The way the rule is written paints you into a corner of compliance giving favor to the FAA and the ability to hold you responsible for any mishap that might occur. Knowing all this, enjoy the flight

Great information, thanks for it. Cheers!

Thanks for the video. About the weight of the aircraft. It is my understanding that it must be less than 0.55 lbs, not 0.55 lbs or less. At least that's the way it is on the Part 107 test.

When flying Glo, we never flew over the pits, bad habit and don't. You really can't afford to hurt people and will never be prepared if someone shots it down.

I’ve been flying drones since the DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ (2015). I’ve been thru flight school for my private pilot license. The FAA makes this so complicated for people who want to fly their drone under part 107. At this point I’m half tempted to just fly recreationally.

Quick question: I registered my drone with FAA under part 107. As long as I meet all requirements of recreational flight, I can fly recreationally? Isn’t recreationally a subset of 107? I wanna play by the book while I work for my 107.

So basically, unless you have a DOC and your drone is not categorized, you can't fly or even transition over people. Correct? Great vid!

With the Supreme Court striking down chevron doctrine, the FAA’s “rules” don’t matter, only LAW matters
