Nice reaction. This is going back to the 1955 comics superman. Where his father, knowing that their planet Krypton would be destroyed, tested a version of a rocket and spaceship to earth using his dog Krypto, before putting his son in another to save him when the destruction actually came. Both Krypto and Kal-El (superman's name) became incredibly strong with superpowers because of our yellow sun. (you hear the robots saying "Kal El" when they are speaking Krypton when they first appear.) That arctic superman base is the "Fortress of Solitude" which has been in most superman movies since the original modern one 1978 Superman staring Christopher Reeve. Even the robots there are from the original comic source. I hope people accept this movie as a fun ride, and don't get too picky about comparisons with other recent superman versions.
