Operation Bagration WWII

Operation Bagration is one of the largest offensive operations in history.
The goal was to liberate Belarus and defeat Army Group Centre.
The operation caught the Nazis by surprise.
They didn’t expect the Soviet forces to attack in the swampy area.
The concentration of strategic reserves went undetected by the German Intelligence.
Partisans aided with the offensive: they destroyed roads to hold back Wehrmacht reinforcements.
The start of the Operation was timed to coincide with the beginning of the War.
And it was named after the great Russian military commander in retaliation for the Barbarossa Plan.
The primary offensive operation focused on Vitebsk, Bobruisk, Mogilev and Orsha
.
After 12 days of battles:
— The front line was pushed back 250 kilometers.
— 30 German divisions – almost half – were destroyed.
— Minsk was liberated
During the second stage, Soviet forces liberated parts of Baltic states and eastern regions of Poland
.
Bagration helped the Allies to consolidate forces in the Northern France.
General Eisenhower wrote that he was impressed by how fast Soviet troops trampled the enemy forces.

And after that, 57000 german POW were parded through Moscow. Because anglo-americans didnt believe Soviet claims about how many prisoners were taken. Stalin prepared them a good surprise. Lol
