Spot on Roger. Selling off utility companies was madness.

Governments aren’t good at running businesses.
But businesses are good at running governments

The whole point of government is to keep its citizens safe and you would think energy security should be pretty high up the list of government priorities along with food, water, etc. So it is pretty disgraceful to find that instead our government has sold our gas reserves and decommissioned our gas storage leaving us completely unprotected. By the time we get out of this situation it will have cost us 10x the money the government "saved" by selling off our energy security.

Problem in this country there isn’t nearly enough ranting about the real issues, proud to be a ranter. Cannot tolerate the false manners, turn the other cheek culture in this land. More power to your elbow Roger.

3:31 - "If it was worth the Chinese buying, why wasn't it worth us keeping?"
Well said, Roger.

Even as someone in the industry trading gas/commodities, you’re right, markets are terrible when it comes to long term planning or security of supply. I would run it centrally like the old days. Keep up the rants, usually right on the money imo!

Roger, don't change anything on your channel. I remember when I started in the gas heating plumbing industry in the late 90s you were the face of the trade mags. Good to see you're still there!

Change nothing!

It's never about competitive pricing, it's always about testing the market to see how much people will pay

In the North East I believe Northern Gas Networks & Northumbrian Water are owned by CK Infrastructure Holdings (Hong Kong) and Northern Powergrid is mostly owned by Berkshire Hathaway Energy (US... i.e. Warren Buffett). Never made much sense to me. Anyway, spot on as usual Roger. Please keep ranting and buckle up for the next few weeks! 😬

Love it when you rant especially when you’re spot on

Exactly my conclusions on privatisation Roger, and I'm in Australia (same deal, same results - just not as exposed as you guys in the UK). We have a privatised system that sells off almost all our gas and exposes us to potential restrictions in supply and a ever increasing gas bills. We are also dragging our feet on electrification for much the same reason - government abdication of duty. A system that rewards those that add no value is just a waste of tax payer dollars. Governments have forgotten that their primary goal is to serve their people - all the people, not just some that pass them a buck or two under the table.
Don't always agree with your rants, but they make me rethink things, so please keep them coming! No separate channel for me - it just incrementally adds more complexity for no apparent gain.

Rant away Roger! Well said.
A Nation needs to have its own independent energy supply and it should be owned by the State. Years of mismanagement and reliance on 'cheap' gas and oil from rouge states (Middle East, Russia) has resulted in this mess. We have decades worth of oil and gas in the North Sea but it's not green enough apparently. We should have been building more nuclear reactors as a back up and started much earlier on renewable energy (hydro, wind, solar). I would seriously consider solar panels on my roof but the cost is considerable and the government stopped the grants.

In the Highlands of Scotland we have had surplus electricity storage since the 1950s. It has been, and is being expanded massively. It’s called pump storage hydro. Near me, during the night water is pumped up hill into mountain lochs. Hydro power, onshore wind and offshore wind make loads of electricity during the night that can’t be exported. Gravity can then be used to create electricity during the day as required.

Whether you like rants or not it has to be said that you are very good at it ! Keep up the good work Roger.

Great rant. We should remind our Conservative politicians of what they've done in the past and how they've destroyed our abilty to manage the country in a sensible way. We don't need market forces in the health, education, pensions, local government and utility sectors - just sensible spending and investment.

Once a week you should have a rant on a separate channel Because the working person will feel it's the most, You have a clear way of explaining what's going on. I like the format of the video. Thanks

What a brilliant chap he’s not afraid to speak his mind which by the way is how most of us feel about all these lies we are told, well done roger 👍👍👍

The current hikes in daily standing charges is covering the costs of suppliers that went bust and had to be administrated by remaining large suppliers.

In the case of Bulb energy; it was too big to be passed on so is being administered by the government and one way or another the public are covering the cost of this fallout.

It baffles me why we’re dishing out money for energy support instead of restarting grants for insulation and Low energy upgrades for domestic property.

Windfall taxes won’t have any affect on green investment from energy companies as they’ve already accounted for this in the Annual projections, they used the excuse as a lever to stem the enthusiasm for windfall tax from the general public (BP being a prime example).

It's time to nationalise utility companies including gas, electricity, water, and communication companies unless they can really compete with one another
