Well, I like Jon Meacham and really enjoyed his academic work. But he is a little all over the place with his commentaries. He pushed for historical analogies but then warns and retreats from them anytime anyone else builds on his analysis or draws logical conclusions. Now we're in "uncharted waters". What's the reference point? The last 50 years or is he speaking as a historian going back to the foundation of the country (as he always does)?
In his own book on Andrew Jackson, he says how the president said he wished he had hung Henry Clay and shot John C Calhoun. The same John C Calhoun he then threaten to decapitate.

Now Trump says some stupid and vulgar tweets and we're somehow in some 4th dimension...c'mon. So many guys in Washington hate each other's guts (even, if not especially, within their own parties) and it's well known.
Scalise got shot and a Dem operative said he wished he died. So let's stop this melodramatic theatre please. Trump's just an "enfant terrible". The more attention you give to his personality, the more of a cult it will become.
