Hi everyone, I'm just a regular guy that likes to make videos. I like to review tech and show the camera capabilities on the newest mobile phones.

1:00 Sony did the contrary of what you asked. Previous Xperias had separate basic and pro cameras. They did the right thing unifying it into a single one, makes sense to just separate into different modes.
There's nothing complicated or confusing about it when it defaults to Basic.
And personally, I don't understand how can say that there's "too much clutter" on the interface. Basic is very simple and well organized, with all the buttons on the bottom, nothing obstructing the viewfinder. Didn't you see any other competing camera interface with double the buttons spread across the interface and on top of the viewfinder?

Of course, the Xperia camera needs steps to take beautiful pictures
Xperia does not rely on artificial intelligence in photography
Other phones use artificial intelligence so much that it spoils the scene sometimes
I love what Sony is doing with its phones

I can't recall seeing a more biased review of handphone cameras in YouTube. From the start to the end of the video, all this review does is complain about the photo app! This only leads me to think that the reviewer is biased. I've used the Xperia 1iv and Samsung s23+, Huawei P50 Pro, etc. extensively, and using the Basic mode in the Sony Photo Pro app is just as easy to use as the other phones' app.

This is a phone for people who don't want to carry a DSLR everywhere but still want to do great photos/videos. Average consumer will never buy this phone at all, just deal with it. Noob will rather get an Iphone or Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

This phone is not for the average consumer. It seems odd to review it as such.

The basic mode is just .. well "basic", and nothing too complicated... and i think anyone who is using the phone, even for the first time should still be able to use it pretty well. Is is that hard to use the basic mode to not recommend to a regular user? I dont think so. Now there are a couple of modes and menus in the basic mode too, which may appear complicated but once anyone spends sometime with the phone, they get used to it, and they are super handy to have.... i think you assume the average user to be too dumb to not understand any of it.

The bokeh mode is pretty much rubbish with Xperias tbh and sony probably doesnt want you to use it, and thus the extra steps.

I believe they will put update to fix low light problem.

I think if you can launch photo pro straight into basic and hit the on-screen button you're going to get a pretty good photo if you're using the wide. That's just two presses, unless you want to tap to focus, so it's three. I can see, though, that if you want full bokeh there are a few hoops to jump through.

Just bought it and trying it out. Yes the Basic mode actually not that good and the software still needs some tinkering with before the international release. The video is godly, I didn’t like the audio that much and photo is mediocre for what it was advertised for. I use it as an external monitor and it is great as a back up video machine

Sony are not making this phone for regular users its for people who know how to take photos and videos. By the way portrait mode comes on automatically when the phone is turned to portrait.

If we find there's too much noise can we just bump up the iso?

Not much improvement in bokeh mode, still bad. But the colors and natural bokeh are insane!!

If the Basic mode is too complicated to you, you are mentally challenged

Sony should do a "Preserve settings" in the settings app where it keeps the last settings you use for the basic app. I do hope that Sony at least put some of the features like 4K60 in the basic app and also improve the stabilization. Otherwise, this phone is not meant for the average joe.

They know that this is not for your average consumer and if you go into the settings of the camera you can change to open at last mode that you shot in

So the opening half of the video about being a casual user to take a quick snap? It's easy, Hold camera button to open app, press camera button again to take a snap. That's it.

All phones have various features and modes which once you start going into, defeat the purpose of taking a "quick snap".

In addition, if we go into the topic of AI enhanced photos etc - this is just a fancy way of saying automatic post processing.
