Commenting for engagement because the Youtube algorithm really needs to be putting these great videos in front of more eyeballs. The other common errors that are a pet peeve for me are using nouns/adjectives as verbs/adverbs: login for log in; everyday for every day; setup for set up...

Tricky words for me are compound adjective and noun phrases, where the adjective sometimes has a hyphen and sometimes doesn't, I usually check the dictionary to be sure if it exists in English already, if not, I'll write it with a hyphen if it's an adjective. Likewise there are certain verbal phrases that also are inconsistent and sometimes written with a hyphen, or as two separate words, or as two words combined into one word with no spaces. For words I'm not familiar with, I first check go see if there is an accepted spelling in the dictionary, because it's not always consistent. Sometimes an adjective, or noun, or verb form of something is one way for one word and another way for another word. Or sometimes you're trying to create a compound adjective that doesn't exist, so I just use a hyphen.

For example, the phrase layaway is written as two words combined with no spaces, but it could've been as hyphenated or could have been written as two separate words, like health care usually is. Or sometimes verbal phrases are written as hyphenated, even though that's usually something adjectives do. You just have to go on a case-by-case basis and research to see if it exists in the dictionary (preferably a big, unabridged one) and if not use your best judgment. Hope that makes sense. I try my best, but some advanced English grammar stuff are hard to put into practice. Thanks, Alisha.

You could make a whole hobby out of collecting these mistakes. I once saw a comment where someone referred to "rod iron". ( I'm pretty sure he actually meant "wrought iron".) Another person described one of those long, skinny little dogs as a "doxin". But I think my all-time favorite would have to be the confused little kid who didn't quite understand the opening words of the Pledge of Allegiance: "A pigeon leads us to the flag...."

Sadly, the people who most frequently confuse words don't give a dam.
