Watching ants can actually be pretty entertaining. But did you know that they can predict if it will rain?

on my way to work a few days ago i saw many HUGE ant mounds and i was like "damn where did all these ant hills come from it wasnt like this last week" and its been raining ever since then.

I think it might also depend on the exact species of ants, because in my area most of them build steep hill-shaped nests

Dude. I swear. I cut the grass on Sunday, by Tuesday the piles on my yard were rebuilt even higher. I guess my cinnamon trick didn’t work. I think this weekend I’ll mix cinnamon with scolding hot water and pour it on the mound, then sprinkle grits on top to smother them. I just want my kids to enjoy the yard.

Doest help them predict the hose, i mostly see them when ive accidentally flooded under a rock or paver etc.

My Mom grew up in the country and she always says when it's gonna rain she can smell ants! She says rain smells like ant hills. That never really made sense to me til just now! hahaa! Maybe she CAN smell the ant hills! No idea.

So COOL and good to know. :D We've been going through a horrible heat wave, 38°C saturday, never before had it gotten that hot and I've notice some ants that are next to our cistern and washbasin, since lastweek they've been swarming just outside the crack where they have their nest, they're just as stressed as us humans are?

I had a large wood ant hive in one of my designs. I worked closely with them and we had achieved a very good symbiotic relationship.
whenever a big weather change was coming, they would cover up all of the holes in the mound. it looked like they had moved on.
