Thailand’s party-pooper-in-chief, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, has made another controversial claim to Thailand’s media, predicting that Thailand’s Covid-19 infections could reach 10,000, a day, now that Thailand’s nightlife has ‘officially’ reopened. And in Phuket there was a loosening of mask requirements. But it only lasted 24 hours until the face mask requirement, everywhere, was re-instated. Crazy? Yes. It has always been the policy of the Thai police and unfortunately also Thai people in general. Blame any crime of the foreigner - we Thai are good honest Buddhist and would never do any crimes. I feel that 99 % of the Thai people are very good and friendly, but they need to learn and accept that 1 % are maybe not that great people. Like in any other country.

Actually, Thai provinces have very little autonomy. The fact that they would be able to impose only more stringent restrictions than the rest of the country is quite hilarious.

Arrived yesterday. I was prepared to wear the mask again. But damn I feel stupid doing so when outside. It feels like superstition and fear is knocking feet of science.

I’m told coconut oil repels sand flies and many Thai islands sell coconut oil on the beach for that purpose. I have no personal experience.
